Below is a sample race from a recent days racing.

 Explanation

'Win and Place' odds as per current Betfair market shows.

The 'True Place Price' column is our estimation of a horses true place price. These odds are generated through our computer calculations and we believe them to be correct. The nearer a win market is trading to a 100% book the more accurate the place prices will be. Beware of weak markets (That's why we don't show you the odds until usually 8 minutes before the 'off' - we want strong markets).

The '% Over or Under' is the current place price compared to the 'True Place Price'. If the current price is more than the true price it will show a +% and may be indicated as a value place bet. If the current price is under the true price then it will show a -% and may be indicated as a value lay. Please note that we calculate odds discrepancies 'stake included'. e.g. a 1.40 odds is 10% over-priced at 1.54 and not 1.44. This allows for the 'Harville Formula' effect where the odds-on favourites are known to be over-estimated, and therefore, less likely to place if they fail to win the race.

The 'Value to Bet or Lay' column is merely an indicator for quick reference. If it shows 'Bet' in blue then it is more than 10% out-of-line and could be a possible value bet. If it shows as a 'Lay' in pink it is at least 10% under what it should be and could be a value lay. Please note that all calculations are derived from the blue BACK odds columns. If a 'Lay' is showing in the right column this generally means this is good value to Lay at the current price showing in the 'Back' column. e.g. Seven of Trumps in the sample race above has a 'True Place Price' of 8.75. If you deduct 13.14% this equals 7.60 as shown in the Back column.

We are receiving live Betfair API odds feeds so our screens are on constant update. Odds feeds will normally be set to start 8 minutes before a race is due off and will continue for 10 minutes, then the next race takes preference. Depending on how busy the racing schedule is we may vary these times to accommodate more races. We could be covering up to 12 races in a very busy one hour period.

Please use the information we give you wisely, and do not over-bet. If you have any questions about Calcodds please do not hesitate to contact us.
